Open d'Australie: Jules Marie is Ambitious
Tennis player and YouTuber, Jules Marie (226th in the world) will be able to compete in the qualifying rounds of the Australian Open in 2024. At 32 years old, the Frenchman hopes that this is just the beginning of something greater for him.
As the year 2023 comes to a close, Jules Marie can reasonably be satisfied when looking back on his last season. Currently ranked 226th in the ATP rankings, the Frenchman will be able to participate in the qualifying rounds of the Australian Open in a few weeks. At 32 years old, he has already achieved the first part of his goal, having made his comeback to the professional circuit two years ago. Now, the Caen native dreams of continuing his momentum in 2024. "How do I feel? Pride! Starting from scratch at 30 years old, with a more difficult ATP points system and stronger players ranked between 400th and 1,500th than in the past, achieving this is a relief. It is also a little revenge for all those who didn't believe in me, but that takes a back seat for me. It's also a revenge against myself," explained the interested party recently.
Marie dreams of breaking into the top 100.
"I think I have a fifty-fifty chance of making it to the main draw (at the Australian Open). There is very little difference between being ranked 100th and 230th. It will come down to managing emotions, dealing with the heat, and recovery. Anything is possible in the qualifiers. We have already seen many surprises, like 'lucky losers' who reached the third round of a Grand Slam. I will take it match by match, and we will tally up the results in the end... What's next? I don't really have a limit. My sporting goal is clearly to compete in all four Grand Slams, climb up the rankings, and maybe even break into the top 100," Marie also stated during a press conference. The Australian Open is fantastic, it was a dream, but the objective is to go further. It is just a step in my career." After the holidays, the Frenchman will travel to Oceania, where he will compete in a Challenger 100 tournament in Nouméa, New Caledonia, before heading to Australia.
