West Ham secures loan signing of Man City's Phillips
London (United Kingdom) (AFP) - West Ham United has completed the loan signing of Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips for the remainder of the season. The move aims to provide the England international with regular first-team football and increase his chances of featuring at Euro 2024.

Phillips has found limited opportunities at Manchester City following his £45 million ($57 million) transfer from Leeds in July 2022. However, despite his club situation, he has continued to be selected by England manager Gareth Southgate for national duty. By joining West Ham, Phillips hopes to showcase his abilities and stake his claim for a starting role in the upcoming European Championship in Germany.

Reports suggest that West Ham will have the option to make the loan move permanent at the end of the season.

Expressing his excitement, Phillips commented, "There has always been speculation about me joining West Ham, so I am thrilled to finally get the opportunity. There is so much to anticipate for the club in the second half of the season, and I can't wait to be a part of it."

He added, "The team here is exceptional, and I believe that my quality will contribute to our success. I am confident that we can provide plenty of excitement for the West Ham fans from now until the end of the season."

West Ham has set ambitious goals for the season, eyeing a qualification spot for the UEFA Champions League. Currently occupying sixth place in the Premier League table, a top-five finish could secure a Champions League berth if other English sides perform well in European competitions. Furthermore, the team has advanced to the last 16 of the Europa League after winning the Europa Conference League last season.

David Moyes, West Ham's manager, expressed his delight at the signing, saying, "We are thrilled to bring a player of Kalvin's caliber to West Ham United. We have admired him for a long time, and we believe that he will strengthen our squad and provide healthy competition."

Moyes added, "Kalvin is an experienced England international midfielder with a proven track record in the Premier League. We are excited to welcome him to the team and look forward to working with him."
