PSG Rejects Super League Project: A Strong Stand for European Football
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has firmly rejected the proposed Super League project, as stated by club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. PSG, along with UEFA, stands against the breakaway league, emphasizing their commitment to the principles of the European sports model and the values of open competition and inclusion.

PSG Rejects "Totally and Completely" Any So-Called Super League Project

In an official statement, PSG president and ECA chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi expressed his opposition to the Super League project following the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union. Earlier in the day on Thursday, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin also shared his opinion on the matter.

The global football community continues to react to the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union, which ruled the UEFA monopoly as irregular. As the Super League project continues to gain momentum and its new format has been unveiled, PSG issued a strong response through a press release. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of the Parisian club and also the head of the European Club Associations (ECA), stated, "Paris Saint-Germain totally and completely rejects any so-called Super League project, as it has been the case since day one and will always be. As a proud European institution, PSG supports the principles of the European sports model, the values of open competition and inclusion, and works with all recognized stakeholders in European football - especially with the supporters and players, who are at the heart of football."

Ceferin: "I hope they create the most beautiful league possible with two clubs"

Earlier on Thursday, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin held a press conference with Nasser Al-Khelaïfi to express their views on the Super League project. Ceferin nuanced the ruling of the CJEU, which is not as negative as it may seem. "The CJEU did not give the green light or approve the Super League, in any way. In fact, there is a striking contrast between the CJEU's press summary and the judgment itself. The ruling is actually positive," Ceferin emphasized. Furthermore, he did not hesitate to criticize the presidents of Real Madrid (Florentino Pérez) and FC Barcelona (Joan Laporta), who initiated the Super League project and pursued it in court. "We will not try to stop them. I have said publicly several times that they can create whatever they want. I hope they create the most beautiful league possible with two clubs. I hope they know what they are doing, but I am not sure," declared the UEFA president.

The strong opposition from PSG and UEFA adds to the growing controversy surrounding the Super League project. With more clubs and football authorities expressing their disapproval, it remains to be seen how this ambitious breakaway league will proceed. The future of European football hangs in the balance, as discussions and debates continue to shape the landscape of the beautiful game.
