Coach Jose Peseiro remains confident in their strategy of not conceding goals, pointing to Senegal's success in the previous tournament.

Nigeria's national football team, the Super Eagles, have secured a place in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations despite concerns about their lack of goals. The team defeated Guinea-Bissau 1-0 with an own goal in their final group stage match. Moses Simon, who was awarded the man of the match, emphasized that the team's focus is on victory rather than the number of goals scored.

The only goal of the match came in the 36th minute when Opa Sangante, a Guinea-Bissau defender, turned a low cross from Moses Simon into his own net. Nigeria's dominance prior to the goal had been unproductive, but they had several opportunities to extend their lead in the second half. However, goals from Osimhen and Sanusi were disallowed for offside, and a penalty appeal from Bassey was turned down.

Despite the lack of goals, Nigeria's coach, Jose Peseiro, expressed satisfaction with the team's performance. He highlighted the importance of not conceding goals and believed that if they continue in this manner, they can reach the final. Peseiro referred to Senegal, who only scored once in the group stage of the 2022 AFCON but went on to win the tournament.

Nigeria finished second in Group A with seven points, behind Equatorial Guinea, who secured first place with a 4-0 victory over hosts Ivory Coast. The Super Eagles drew 1-1 with Equatorial Guinea in their opening match and defeated Ivory Coast 1-0 in their second match with a penalty from William Troost-Ekong.

Looking ahead, Nigeria will face the runners-up from Group C in the last 16. The potential opponents are Senegal, Guinea, or Cameroon. The team remains confident in their ability to perform well and progress further in the competition.

On the other hand, Guinea-Bissau, who were already eliminated before the match against Nigeria, had a goal disallowed and finished the tournament with three defeats. Despite their previous success in qualifying where they defeated Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau is yet to secure a victory in the Africa Cup of Nations, having played 12 matches across four appearances.

Overall, Nigeria's focus on victory rather than the number of goals scored has proven successful so far in the Africa Cup of Nations. The team's efficient performances have secured them a place in the last 16, and they remain determined to continue their journey towards the final.
