Jumbo-Visma: Vingegaard and Kuss Extend Contracts
On Thursday, Jumbo-Visma announced from Amsterdam that Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard and American rider Sepp Kuss have extended their contracts until 2028 and 2027, respectively.
Good news for Jumbo-Visma. While Slovenian rider Primoz Roglic decided to change teams during the off-season and has since joined Bora-Hansgrohe, the team that will become Visma-Lease a bike in a few days (starting from 2024) should be able to rely on two of its main leaders in the coming years. This Thursday, the Dutch team officially announced the contract extensions of Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard (until 2028), American rider Sepp Kuss (until 2027), and Dutch rider Fem van Empel (until 2027) during a press conference in Amsterdam. "This is excellent news for us. We like to establish long-term partnerships, and we are happy that Fem (van Empel), Sepp (Kuss), and Jonas (Vingegaard) feel the same way. We will continue to write the history of the sport in the years to come," said Jumbo-Visma's sports director Merijn Zeeman in a statement.
Vingegaard: "My future is here, and I'm proud of it"
"I feel really comfortable in this team, and we are doing very well with our approach. That's why I'm happy to extend my contract once again. My future is here, and I'm proud of it," said the double Tour de France winner, who hopes to achieve a third victory in a few months (from June 29 to July 23). "Of course, I will defend my title; it will be my main goal in 2024," Vingegaard confided on Thursday, as reported by L'Equipe. "This team is like a family to me. I feel at home here. The excellent results we have achieved as a team and my personal victory in the Tour of Spain are proof of that," explained the American rider, who won the Vuelta this year. "It is also a positive feeling to be able to build on this foundation for the years to come. Together, we will achieve even more!" After a fantastic season in 2023, Jumbo-Visma clearly aims to continue in the same vein with its new title sponsor.
