Top 14: Racing 92 Signs Owen Farrell for Two Seasons

Racing 92 has officially announced the signing of English international fly-half (or center) Owen Farrell (32 years old) for the next two seasons.

It's a massive coup for Racing 92! The French club confirmed on Monday in a brief statement that they have signed Owen Farrell from the Saracens in England for the next two seasons. Earlier this month, L'Equipe and Midi Olympique had reported Racing 92's interest in the 32-year-old English international fly-half (or center), and now it has materialized. "He will join the Ciel et Blanc squad from July 1st, 2024," Racing 92 stated. After securing the services of South African flanker and two-time world champion Siya Kolisi this season, Racing 92 has now acquired another global rugby star. Farrell averages over 11 points per game for both his club and national team. With 112 international caps for England since 2012, Owen Farrell is a key figure for the Red Roses (and the British & Irish Lions). However, he has decided not to participate in the upcoming Six Nations tournament in order to prioritize his family and mental well-being. Until the end of the season, he will solely focus on the Saracens, currently sixth in the English Premiership, who will face Bordeaux-Bègles in the Champions Cup round of 16 in early April.

Farrell Spends Fifteen Years with the Saracens

Leaving the Saracens will undoubtedly be a major upheaval for the Wigan native, who has spent his entire career with the club based in Watford. In fact, he became the youngest player to debut in the English Premiership at the age of 17 in 2008. He will be departing the Premiership and the Sarries one year before the end of his contract, which was set to expire in June 2025, following the path of many other English internationals in recent years. At Racing 92 (the current Top 14 leader and qualified for the Champions Cup round of 16), Farrell will compete for the fly-half position with Antoine Gibert, Tristan Tedder, and Martin Méliande, filling the void left by Finn Russell, who departed last summer.
